Good point.

In fact, the second point above (optimisation) should involve writing contents to support your keyword.

Many people have written articles containing important keywords to their website. They will leave the articles on their website for one month and let Google and other search engine index the site.

Then they will submit their articles on free article submission page.
http://ezinearticles.com

Everybody will then go and get that particular article, because it is free to use, with a condition that the author's information (url) will need to be in the article.

By that, when Google index the article on their websites, same keywords will be indexed and your URL is there. And, wolaah, your site gains popularity.

How about content? I am at a loss as to whether content in the end is actually more important than all the technical aspects of SEO. I have read so many e-books and blogs that recommend a certain spot on your page for the keyword, and page density, and url registration. So, is there something that outweights anything else?

SEO is such a jungle of madness. A lot of people work on their sites for years and walk away with nothing, yet some people have sites that are geared towards search engines yet offer no real content.
